Cellular Backhaul Needs A Wide Range of Solutions
2 Comments | Posted by cablefree in General News, Press Releases
Mobile operators face a number of different challenges in connecting their network access points together. The problems include:
- High density subscribers in urban areas over short ranges
- Low density subscribers in outlying areas over long distances
- Shortage of existing cabled connections available for the access points
- High costs of installation and ownership
- Installation delays
Whilst microwave is sometimes recommended as the one stop solution, this is a case where one size of solution definitely does not fit all. Addressing the very differing needs requires a wide range of solutions.
At Mobile Transport & Infrastructure Africa (Cape Town, South Africa. Mon 30 Nov 2009 – Thu 03 Dec 2009) CableFree solutions will be presenting a range of solutions to address all the issues. The appropriate use of microwave will be discussed along with some of the limitations such as:
- licensing requirements,
- interference, multipath and signal reflection problems, and
- public health fears
Contrasting wireless alternatives to microwave such Free Space Optics & Broadband Radio will be demonstrated, enabling assessment of the key benefits including:
- Which technology is appropriate for each application
- Rapid deployment
- High reliability
- Low total cost of ownership
- IP network migration paths
Experts from CableFree Solutions will also be available to discuss network operators’ individual problems and advise on the various ways of finding the best solution.
Stephen Patrick, Director of CableFree Solutions has been asked to present an expert’s view at the conference. He said; “CableFree’s extensive experience providing solutions to a diverse range of cellular operator needs in varied environments enables us to tailor a solution to each and every need.”

CableFree Announces Launch of IHPR-MIMO Product, 222Mbps Point to Point Radio Link
0 Comments | Posted by cablefree in General News, Product Information
CableFree has updated it’s OFDM Radio Range with a new flagship model – the IHPR-MIMO. The system utilises MIMO Technology – (Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output) to achieve very high throughput, over 2.5 times typical rates, without using any more radio spectrum or power than conventional radios.
The fully-Integrated outdoor-grade radios include 23dBi Dual Polarised antennas and best-in-class MIMO radio chipsets to create two bidirectional data-streams operating on the same radio frequencies. The system uses sophisticated spatial multiplexing technology to achieve 300Mbps raw speed, delivering continuous uncompressed 222Mbps net capacity in throughput tests.
The new MIMO radio dramatically increases performance above the existing IHPR-DP (providing 80Mbps full duplex). They have been extremely well received, deployed in numerous regions and have proved extremely popular with early customers.
The additional bandwidth capability of the new MIMO radio provides solutions for higher bandwidth customer requirements, and offer greater options for future scalability.
The product is available with 1 x 10/100Mbps Interface, or GigE + 10/100. Combining the latter with the built in advanced routing features of the IHPR-MIMO enables many applications, such as using the radio as a fully integrated resilient path for a CableFree FSO or MMW primary link. Other variants include versions to allow use with external high gain parabolic antennas for longer distance links.
You can download the datasheet for the IHPR-MIMO from http://www.cablefree.co.uk/datasheets/cf-ihpr-mimo.pdf. For further information on CableFree’s range of products and services, including the IHPR-MIMO Radio, please contact CableFree directly or your local CableFree partner.

October 2009 – CableFree Solutions announces at Gitex a dramatic 270% increase in transmission capacity for their HPR radios.
0 Comments | Posted by cablefree in Exhibitions / Events, General News, Product Information
CableFree Solutions announces at Gitex a dramatic 270% increase in transmission capacity for their HPR radios. Called MIMO (multiple input, multiple output), the technology extension to their existing HPR radios uses spatial multiplexing using dual-polarity antennas.
This provides simultaneous transmission and reception and well as an increase in the overall capability. This increase raises transmission capacity from the current standard 80 Mbps to an astounding 222 Mbps.
The solution is in field trials now and will be shipping shortly.
Stephen Patrick, Director of CableFree Solutions said; “We constantly get feedback from customers on the pressures they see in their business to increase data bandwidth. This is our ground-breaking response to the requests, and continues our long history of innovative solutions for customers.”
